IGN respects each individual’s right to personal privacy.  We will collect and use information through our website only in the ways disclosed in this statement.

We reserve the right to modify this privacy statement at any time, so please review it frequently.  If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here, by email, or by means of notice on our home page.  By continuing to use the IGN website after notice of changes have been sent to you or published on the IGN website, you are consenting to the changes.

1.    Personal Information Collected

The purpose of the IGN website is to permit Users to voluntarily provide information about themselves for the purposes of developing, maintaining and enhancing a network of professional contacts.  You willingly provide us certain personal information, which we collect in order to allow you to benefit from the IGN website.  If you have any hesitation about providing such information to us and/or having such information displayed on the IGN website or otherwise used in any manner permitted in this Privacy Policy and the User Agreement, you should not become a member of the IGN community.

We collect your personal information in the following ways:
•    When you register an account to become an IGN user (“User”), such as your name, e-mail, country, location, occupation and a password.
•    When you add to your profile with additional information about yourself or your private contacts.
•    We automatically receive from your internet use such information as your IP address, the URLs of sites from which you arrive or leave the IGN website, your type of browser and your ISP.
•    We may use cookies and other technologies to recognize you, customize your experience and serve advertisements.


2.    Uses of Personal Information

We use the information you provide to:

•    Administer your account with us and customize the service we provide to you.
•    To send you service or promotional communications through email and notices on the IGN website.
•    We do not sell, rent or otherwise provide your personal identifiable information to any third parties for marketing purposes.
•    We provide you with the means to control whether or not your contact information is shared with another User.
•    In order to deliver our services, we may share information with third parties.  For example, to process subscription payments made by you, we share some of your information with the credit card processing company we use.
•    Registered users may receive additional announcements from us about products, services, etc….Out of respect for our users we present the option to not receive these types of communications.
•    The information we collect may be used to create customer profiles based on browsing or purchasing history.  We may supplement information collected at our website with data from other sources.
•    We offer links to other websites.  Please note: When you click on links to other websites, we encourage you to read their privacy policies.  Their standards may differ from ours.
•    Our website offers discussion forums.  Please be advised that information posted in these venues becomes public knowledge.

3.    Access to Your Information

Viewing or editing your profile.  You may change or delete your profile information at any time by going to your profile page and clicking “Edit Profile.”  Information will be updated immediately.  

Deactivating or deleting your account.  If you want to stop using your account, you may deactivate it or delete it.  When you deactivate an account, no user will be able to see it, but it will not be deleted.  We save your profile information in case you later decide to reactivate your account.  You still have the ability to reactivate your account and restore your profile in its entirety.  When you delete an account, it is permanently deleted.  You should only delete your account if you are certain you never want to reactivate it.  You may deactivate your account in the  Account section.

Limitations on removal.  Even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others, it was otherwise distributed pursuant to your privacy settings, or it was copied or stored by other users.  

4.        How We Share Information

IGN is about sharing information with business contacts, colleagues and other people in your networks while providing you with privacy settings that you can use to restrict other users from accessing your information.  We share your information with third parties when we believe that sharing is permitted by you, reasonably necessary to offer our services, or when legally required to do so.


5.         How We Protect Information

Steps we take to keep your information secure.   We keep your account information on a secured server behind a firewall.  When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card numbers and passwords), we encrypt that information.  We also use various measures to enhance security, may limit use of site features in response to possible signs of abuse, may remove inappropriate content or links to illegal content, and may suspend or disable accounts for violations of the Privacy Policy and/or User Agreement.

Risks inherent in sharing information.  Although we allow you to set privacy options that limit access to your information, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.  We cannot control the actions of others users with whom you share your information.  We cannot guarantee that only authorized persons will view your information.  We cannot ensure that information you share on the IGN website will not become publicly available.  We are not responsible for third party circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures on IGN.  You can reduce these risks by using common sense security practices such as choosing a strong password, using different passwords for different services, and using up to date antivirus software.

6.         Your Obligations

As a User, you have certain obligations toward the other Users with whom you will be communicating.  Certain of these obligations are imposed by applicable law and regulations, and others have become commonplace in user-friendly communities, such as IGN:
a)    You must, at all times, respect the terms and conditions of the then-current Privacy Policy and User Agreement.  This includes respecting all intellectual property rights which may belong to third parties
b)    You must not download or otherwise disseminate any information which may be deemed to be injurious, violent, offensive or racist or which may otherwise violate the purpose and spirit of IGN and its community of Users.
c)    You must not provide information to IGN and/or other Users which you believe might be injurious or detrimental to your employer and/or personal, professional or social status.

Any violation of these guidelines may lead to the restriction, suspension or termination of your account by IGN, as we take these principles seriously and consider them to be the basis on which our Users adhere to the IGN website and the services which it offers.

7.         Security

IGN operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall password protection systems.  Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our customers.
